Reliance Industries Ltd. chairman, Mukesh Ambani has announced the widely speculated Jio 4G feature phone in India during the company’s annual general meeting. The newly launched budget mobile will be called as the Reliance Jio Phone which will be made available in the market by August 15. On the pricing front, the company will be offering the Jio Phone at an ‘effective’ price of Rs 0.
However, there’s a catch. The ‘effective’ price of the phone will be Rs 0 as the company will be collecting a 100 percent refundable security deposit fee of Rs 1,500. The fee will be refunded to users after 3 years on returning the phone.
Reliance Jio Phone: Features
The Reliance Jio Phone runs on 4G VoLTE network and it comes with pre-loaded apps like JioTV, JioCinema. The handset is said to have its own digital assistant with support for voice command inputs. Furthermore, the phone supports 22 regional Indian languages.

Reliance says that it has introduced a security feature in Jio Phone which can directly call the pre-selected contacts of the users by long pressing the ‘5’ key in case of emergency. The company is also planning to bring the NFC feature on its Jio-branded phones. The feature is said to be offered as a part of software update later this year.
Reliance Jio Phone: Availability
Coming to the availability, the Reliance Jio Phone will be available for testing purpose in beta from August 15, whereas its pre-booking will begin from August 24. The users availing the pre-booking can later buy the phone from September on the first come first serve basis.
The phone will have a few data packs to use the Reliance Jio services. The users can subscribe to a monthly plan of Rs 153 which offers free voice calling, unlimited data, and SMS, along with Jio apps services. The users can also opt for sachet packs- Rs 24 pack with two days validity and Rs 54 with 7 days validity.
