Reliance Jio is rumoured to shake the mobile space once again and this time, it will amaze with a feature phone. If the rumours are to be believed, the company is planning to launch a Jio feature phone priced around Rs 500 on July 21, 2017. It is the same day when Reliance Industries Limited (RIL) holds its Annual General Meeting.
The Reliance Jio LYF feature phone has been in the rumour mills since the beginning of the year. Now, multiple reports have leaked almost all information about the upcoming Jio feature phone with 4G VoLTE support. A report by TechPP mentioned that the Jio feature phone will be launched under company’s LYF brand.

According to the leaks, the Jio feature phone will feature a 2.4-inch colour display. The handset will have a 512MB of RAM, 4GB of internal storage, external storage up to 128GB via microSD card. It is a dual-SIM mobile with one Nano SIM and one Standard SIM card configuration. For photography, the feature phone will have a 2MP primary rear camera and a VGA camera on the front.
The Jio feature phone is expected to run on ‘KAI OS’ which is a customised version of HTML5. The software will be based on Firefox OS. It will have its own app store called as the ‘KaiOS Plus’. Furthermore, the phone will have come with an integrated voice assistant. The assistant will also have support for Indian languages. The device will be powered by a 2000mAh battery.
The Telecom Talk’s report suggests that the phone will have Wi-Fi tethering functionality. In contrast, TechPP reported that the handset will have a USB tethering functionality.
The Reliance Jio feature phone will have a 1.2GHz dual-core processor. It will be powered by a 2000mAh battery and will have FM Radio, support for video calling, and Bluetooth 4.1 with LE.
A separate report claimed that the Jio feature phone will cost around Rs 500. The company is believed to have placed an order to Chinese vendors for around 18-20 million handset units. The list of vendors will include Zhejiang Techain Electronics Technology, Crave, Shenzhen CHINO-E Communication, and Megaphone. The Reliance Jio 4G VoLTE feature phone is expected to launch on July 21, in India; however, it will be made available for purchase in August.
