The Chinese smartphone brand, OnePlus has recently met with a controversy due to its new commercial. The new OnePlus ad campaigns have featured the superstar Amitabh Bachchan in it which the popular quiz show Kaun Banega Crorepati (KBC) theme is used. Now, Sony Pictures Network India (SPN) has expressed their objection on the OnePlus ad campaign for a copyright infringement. According to the plea, KBC is an intellectual property of Sony Television and Amitabh Bachchan hosted the show for many years.
To recall, Amitabh Bachchan recently became the brand ambassador for the Chinese manufacturer. The ad campaign for OnePlus 3T features Amitabh Bachchan in which he asks questions in a comparable style which the KBC show include on Sony Television. The TVC is 60-second long and the actor is portrayed to be conducting the show called ‘Best Smartphone Contest’ in which he asks question to a contestant like he asks in KBC.
The minute-long TVC features identical lines based on Sony’s game show. SPN India is believed to have reached to Delhi High Court with a plea for copyright infringement. As per a report by Gadgets360, the court has issued a stay order on the ad campaign for OnePlus mobiles in consideration for the intellectual property breach plea. It is worth mention, that OnePlus India has chosen to keep silence on the issue and the legal matter and said that the company is serious about the intellectual property matters.

Presently, OnePlus is one of the most popular smartphone brands in India and it has gained immense growth in the country front the time it entered. Amazingly, this is not the first time when the company has involved in a legal spat in India. Before this, Micromax has dragged OnePlus over the issue of selling OnePlus One smartphone which had Cyanogen OS running on it. According to Micromax, it had an exclusive deal with the Cyanogen OS. The ban in the end lifted.
On the other side, OnePlus has recently unveiled its service hop-in centre at Gurugram. It is the National Capital Region to the company. On Wednesday, OnePlus has started the operations at the OnePlus exclusive service centre at Gurugram which is located on MG Road, in MGF Mega City Mall. Previously, the company had started its operations at the Thane’s service centre.
