Last year, Xiaomi launched its Redmi 5 smartphone in the Chinese market along with the Redmi 5 Plus. Now, the company has rolled out the Xiaomi Redmi 5 smartphone to the Indian market. The Redmi 5 will be available for purchase in India starting at Rs 7,999 exclusively via Amazon India. The phone will be manufactured in India.
To recall, the Redmi 5 Plus was launched as Redmi Note 5 and Redmi Note 5 Pro last month in India. However, these phones were made available exclusively on Flipkart. The Xiaomi Redmi 5 will be eligible for instant cashback of Rs 2,200 during the launch offer.

The latest Xiaomi smartphone comes in three variants- 2GB RAM + 16GB internal storage for price of Rs 7,999, 3GB RAM + 32GB storage for price of Rs 8,999, and 4GB RAM + 64GB storage priced at Rs 10,999. All three models will be sold via a flash sale in India and the first sale will begin on March 20, 12 pm IST. The company has bundled a free ultra-slim cover with the handset.
Reliance Jio is offering instant cashback of Rs 2,200 for Redmi 5 buyers. Furthermore, the telecom giant will give 100GB of additional data for such users. The SBI credit card holders can avail 5 percent discount for their purchase on Amazon India. Also, the buyers will get 90 percent off when they purchase their first Kindle eBooks (Rs 400 maximum).
Xiaomi Redmi 5: Specifications
The Redmi 5 features a 5.7-inch HD+ (720×1440 pixels) display with 282ppi pixel density, 72 percent NTSC colour gamut, 450nits brightness, 18:9 aspect ratio, and eye protection mode. It is a dual-SIM smartphone and runs on Android Nougat OS with MIUI 9 skin on top. Under the hood, there lies a 1.8GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 450 octa-core processor paired with Adreno 506 GPU, 2GB/3GB/4GB of RAM and 16GB/32GB/64GB of internal storage.
For photography, there is a 12MP primary rear camera with f/2.2 aperture, 1.25-micron pixels, HDR, PDAF, and LED flash. Up front, there is a 5MP selfie snapper with LED flash, Smart Beauty 3.0 app, and face recognition. The connectivity options include 4G VoLTE, GPS/A-GPS, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, as well as a 3.5mm headphone jack. A 3300mAh battery completes the package.
