Sony is rumoured to launch five new smartphones at the Mobile World Congress event in Barcelona in coming weeks. The company is expected to reveal some mid-range Android mobiles during the trade show, but apparently, the company might launch its latest flagship smartphone which is supposed to be the successor to the Xperia Z5 Premium smartphone, as per new leaks.

A renowned leakster, Ricciolo aka @Ricciolo1 has posted a tweet stating that the Xperia Z5 Premium successor will certainly make its presence at the MWC 2017, but there is a catch. The smartphone will not be officially launched during the press conference. Ricciolo’s tweet says “PREMIUM flagship is coming… but don’t hold your breath for #MWC #mwc17 , except the secret rooms… 😉 #xperia #Sony #z5premium #successor”.

Going by this, the Xperia Z5 Premium successor might be showcased by Sony as a prototype to select people behind the closed doors. Furthermore, Sony is expected to ask for signing a non-disclosure agreement from those privileged people to make the revelation procedure confidential.

Sony Yoshino

The main reason behind the delay of the smartphone might be because of the scarce availability of the latest Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 SoC. If the previous rumours are to be believed, Samsung has saved all the Snapdragon 835 chipset for its upcoming flagship Galaxy S8 smartphone. That said, the other manufacturers are unable to implement the latest Snapdragon 835 processor on their latest flagship devices before April.

Sony will release a new flagship device codenamed as the Yoshino. The Sony Yoshino is expected to feature a 5.5-inch 4K (2160×3840 pixels) display powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 processor. The device rumoured to get acceleration from a 4GB or 6GB of RAM with Sony’s IMX400 image sensor on the camera front.

As the Sony Yoshino will pack a Snapdragon 835 chipset, it would make a little sense that the company will just announce the smartphone at the MWC 2017 trade show in secret rooms and it will start selling it in May-June. The Samsung Galaxy S8 is rumored to be launched in late April. As mentioned before, the shortage of Snapdragon 835 SoCs for other companies will ensure that no other phone carrying that chipset will be launched in any case a month from that point on.
