Sony is about to unveil it’s much awaited Xperia XR smartphone in an event at IFA, Berlin on September 1, 2016. But as per the mentions on the company site, it seems like the company may release the Xperia XZ and Xperia X Compact instead. According to a new leak, the company is ditching its ‘Z’ series smartphones in favor of new ‘X’ moniker.
The company has not confirmed whether Xperia XR and XZ will be one and the same device or two different devices. However, earlier reports were pointing out that the Xperia XR will expect to launch at IFA this year. Therefore it is doubtful whether Xperia XR will launch at IFA or not as the official clarification on this is yet to receive.
A Netherland-based website TechTastic has spotted the specifications of upcoming smartphones. According to this, the upcoming Xperia XZ will feature a 5.2-inch display with 2.5D curved glass. The smartphone is also likely to be equipped with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 processor paired with a 4GB of RAM. Moreover, the device will offer a 23MP primary rear camera with laser auto focus and Dual LED flash. For selfie-snapping a 13MP front camera is also expected.
The Xperia X Compact will expect to feature a 4.6-inch display, Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 SoC processor, 3GB or 4GB of RAM, and will power by a 2700mAh battery.
Both these Xperia smartphones are expected to feature with USB Type-C port for charging. The devices are expected to come with quick charging technology.
The Japanese smartphone maker, Sony has limited its efforts on smartphone business. The company is reducing its focus in Indian market because of its unsatisfactory performance in past. Sony is forecasting a merely 0.3 percent of the growth in global markets like India, China, and the US in the future.
The company has recently confirmed about the Android 7.0 Nougat updates roll out for selected Xperia smartphone devices. The company has confirmed the list of smartphone models that will get benefited with Nougat updates. The list includes Xperia Z3+, Xperia Z5 Compact, Xperia Z4 Tablet, Xperia Z5, Xperia Z5 Premium, Xperia X, Xperia X Performance, Xperia XA, and Xperia XA Ultra.
