Sony mobiles are not doing well in the highly competitive global smartphone market from the last few years. Not even a single Sony smartphone launched in 2016 pulled noteworthy sales for the company. Sony has replaced the Xperia Z-series devices with a new X-lineup earlier this year. Now, Sony is rumored to introduce two new smartphones featured with Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 SoC at the upcoming CES 2017.
Sony has exited from the affordable and mid-range segment, whereas the HTC mobiles and LG mobiles have plenty of smartphones in that territory. Sony is rumored to unveil new Xperia smartphones under model numbers of G3121 and G3112 at the upcoming CES event. Both these phones have cleared the Russian regulatory body certification in October. Now, Sony has publicly announced the schedule for a press conference at CES 2017. The event is scheduled on January 4, 2017, in Las Vegas.
The Sony Xperia G3121 and Xperia G3112 are expected to be announced at the CES event on the same day. The event will be live streamed globally. It’s strange why Sony is offering Snapdragon 820 processor when an upgraded Snapdragon 821 is available. One among these two devices is expected to come with a 5.2-inch display whereas the other will feature a 5.5-inch display.
Based on earlier leaks, the 5.2-inch variant will offer a full HD (1080×1920 pixels) display and the 5.5-inch variant will flaunt 4K display. Sony has launched the first smartphone with 4K resolution display last year called as Xperia Z5 Premium. The device sports a 5.5-inch 4K UHD (3840×2160 pixels) display and offers 806ppi pixel density. Coming to the memory of upcoming Xperia G3121 and G3112, the smartphones will come with 4GB of RAM.
Besides the latest mobiles, the company might introduce new wearable devices during the show. We could expect Sony Smartwatch 4 to be unveiled at CES 2017. If the company announces the Sony Smartwatch 4, then it will probably ship with Android Wear OS. The Sony Smartwatch 3 was announced back in 2014 at the IFA event.
