Only recently we saw the Amazon Echo Spot finally make its way to the Indian market. Now, another Alexa-enabled smart speaker has been added to the list. The Amazon Echo Dot Kids Edition has been specifically designed for people having young children at home. One of the most interesting features about this smart speaker is that it comes with FreeTime parental controls.
So now your kid won’t accidentally order anything online without your permission. Moreover, the Echo Dot Kids Edition comes with minor-focused features like telling stories, answering questions and even playing age-appropriate music. The device has launched in the US markets with a price tag of $79.99 (approximately Rs. 5,400). As of now, its availability in India is uncertain. Though, it is safe to assume that the device will make its way to the Indian market, after the launch of its predecessor Amazon Echo Dot in the country.
Amazon Echo Dot Kids Edition: Features & Specifications
This smart speaker is designed for kids under 18 years of age. Parents have complete control over the device with features like activity reviews, bedtime alerts and time limits. Another interesting aspect of this device is that it listens for commands given by kids. Furthermore, it also teaches kids how to use ‘please’ while giving a command. For instances, it gives examples like “Alexa, please play soft music” or “Alexa, how long does Earth take to rotate around the sun?”
Additionally, the FreeTime Unlimited subscription offers various kids-centric features and also has access to an ad-free radio station for kids such as Kids Hits, Nick Radio and Radio Disney. Moreover, with this subscription users will also be given access to over 300 Audible audiobooks.
Furthermore, the Alexa app comes with a dashboard designed for parents which is available on Amazon Echo Dot Kids Edition. This will allow parents to keep a tab on recent history, check on time and usage, filter content from Amazon Music and also turn off voice shopping so that the kids do not accidentally order something online.
As for the connectivity options, Amazon Echo Dot Kids includes dual-band Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n and Bluetooth connectivity. On the other hand, the smart device also features an inbuilt speaker for voice feedback and a 3.5mm jack which can be connected and used for external speakers.
